Part 1. Cheap home insurance quotes – 15 tips to help you save on your homeowners policy.

1. Consider the possibilities before making a choice. Ask for rate quotes in different companies. You may address an independent agent who may offer you rate quotes from various companies. It is also better to ask your friends to advice you the company they are contracted with.

2. Insure your house without the land. While applying for home insurance, pay attention not to insure the land your house sits on. While your house and possessions inside might be damaged in case of any disaster like fire or windstorm, the land won’t suffer at all. So, be aware not to include the value of your land in home policy as it will determine the amount of your premiums.

3. Choose higher deductible. Though deductible for homes starts from as little as 250 dollars, it is suggested to choose higher deductible. According to the Insurance Information Institute higher deductible helps to save on premiums. For example, 500 dollars deductible will save you about 12 percent on your premiums and on 1 000 dollars deductible you can save about 24 percent. However, you must be ready to pay the deductible you choose in case something happens, as you will be paid only after you pay deductible.

4. Choose one company for your home and car insurance policies. If you buy home insurance in any company, you are most likely will be offered a discount for your car coverage. This is a nice chance to save on it.

5. Consider insurance before buying a house. Keep in mind that the state of the house determines your premium. If you are just looking for a house to buy it, think about a policy for particular house. For example, for newer house you will have to pay lower premiums than for older one. Also, pay attention to the location place. If your house is situated on a hazard flood area, you will have to buy separate flood home insurance as it is not included in standard homeowner  policy. The same with windstorms and earthquakes. So, these types should be added to your standard home insurance.

6. Check with group coverage. If you are working in a large company, there might be a possibility for you to get a group policy specially worked out for employees and members of organization. This policy  might have a discount, so check it at your place of work.

7. Check with senior discounts. If your are a senior person and retired, you may check with your agent whether you may have a discount. The reason is that senior people stay at home most of their time, that’s why they are able to spot the fire soon. For this reason some companies might offer you a discount up to 10 percent. Though you have to consult your agent, as this discount is optional and depends on the particular company.
