Travel medical insurance. Any travel policy must cover medical expenses. We can refuse from sports and adventures to get ir cheaper but we can not travel without health policy, that protects us in accidents and illnesses. What is more, a lot of countries, require international medical travel insurance as well as visa. You maybe a totally healthy person and travel abroad without any health problems, but still it is proved that about 50% of travellers fell ill or get into accident during their trip. It is in your interest to by medical travel policy or to pay crazy money like 50 000 dollars and more for evacuation in cases of serious injury or accident. On one hand, companies earn money on us, travellers, but on the other hand they help us save money. You can not play with your health. If something happens to you abroad and you do not have enough money to pay for that and have no medical policy it can even lead to death before you reach your country and your doctor. Just think how important it is!
How does medical insurance work? There are two types of medical insurance. First one pays directly to the hospital where you get treatment and the second pays you money on return. In the second case you will have to pay for treatment yourself, what is not a good idea, cause usually treatment abroad is very expensive, and you just may not have enough cash for it. I strongly recommend to buy only policy that offer direct payment to the hospital.
What does travel medical insurance cover? First of all it covers doctors and hospitals’ bills. The others are: emergency treatment of some illness or injury, surgery of dental treatment that was caused by an accident, rehabilitative treatment, prescription medication, medical supplies, physician charges, semi- private room hospitalization, nurse, laboratory and diagnostic testings, x-rays, chemotherapy, radiation, anesthetics, second surgical opinion, evacuation and repatriation, emergency return home, paramedical services.
If you are not looking for the cheapest policy, you can add some optional covers in your policy. They are: maternity, pre and post- natal care, baby care. As for children- they are covered by their parents.
Travel insurance pre existing medical conditions. When you buy health insurance it is a must to tell the company about illnesses you already have or recently had. Sometimes documents from doctors maybe asked. Usually every company make a must like 120 days where in the given pre- existing conditioned has not happen, only in this case your medical policy will be valid.
